Our mission & story

Crossing a street, finding a bench or avoiding an open manhole is something most people do without thinking. For blind and low-vision people, and for anyone whose attention is on a phone, those everyday obstacles are real risks.

WalkSentry is a student research lab that uses computer vision to reduce those risks. We build obstacle-detection datasets captured from a pedestrian’s point of view, train real-time detectors small enough to run on edge devices, and study how assistive navigation can work for the people who need it most.

Our members are based at York University in Toronto and Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran.
